How to Set Up a Inbound Connect in Microsoft Entra ID

This guide will help you configure Inbound Connect in Microsoft Entra ID enabling single sign on (SSO) between your MIcrosoft Entra ID tenant and Inbound Connect.

Prerequisites

  • A Microsoft Entra ID tenant.
  • Administrative permissions in Microsoft Entra.
  • Inbound Connect account already setup and enabled.

Step 1: Access the Microsoft Entra Admin Center

1. Go to the Microsoft Entra Admin Center. 2. Sign in with your administrative credentials.

Step 2: Register a New Application

1. In the left-hand menu, select App registrations (under the Applications menu). 2. Click + New registration. 3. Fill in the form:
  • Name: Enter a meaningful name (e.g., InboundConnect-SSO).
  • Supported account types: Choose the appropriate option based on your audience.
  • Redirect URI: Select Single-page application (SPA) and enter the Inbound Connect URL – https://app.inboundconnect.com/account/login
4. Click Register.

Step 3: Configure Authentication Settings (Optional Required for Android/iOS Application Usage)

1. Navigate to the Authentication blade. 2. Under Platform configurations, click Add a platform. 3. Select Android (you only need to configure Android and it will support both our Android and iOS applications) 4. Enter com.Inbound.Mobile as the package name. 5. Enter the signature hash provided to you by Inbound Connect support. 6. Click Configure, then Done

Step 4: Assign Permissions

1. Navigate to the API Permissions blade. 2. Click Add a permission. 3. Select Microsoft Graph and then Delegated permissions 4. Expand OpendId permissions and select all 4 permissions presented (email, offline_access, openid, profile) 5. Grant admin consent for the tenant by clicking Grant admin consent for [Your Tenant Name].

Step 5: Create a Token

1. Navigate to the Token configuration blade. 2. Click + Add optional claim. 3. Set the token type to ID 4. Select the following optional claims (email, sid, verified_primary_email) 5. Click Add to save the optional claims.

Step 6: Assign Users and Groups

1. In the left-hand menu, select Enterprise applications (under the Applications menu). 2. Select the enterprise application that you created in the steps above. 3. On the Overview page, select 1. Assign users and groups under the Getting Started section of the main page. 4. Click + Add user/group and assign the users or groups from your Microsoft Entra ID setup that you wish to be able to sign in to Inbound Connect.

Step 7: Obtain the Application ID and Metadata URI

1. In the left-hand menu, select Enterprise applications (under the Applications menu). 2. Select the enterprise application that you created in the steps above. 3. Copy the Application (client) ID and record it to be provided to Inbound Connect. 4. In the left-hand menu, select App registrations (under the Applications menu) 5. Select Endpoints from the top menu and record down the OpenID Connect metadata document value to be provided to Inbound Connect.
